Recent renovations to a two-building complex in Minneapolis enhanced not only the facilities’ insulating value but also the exterior aesthetic via a metal wall panel system manufactured by Petersen Aluminum Corp.
Officials say the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority’s Elliot Twin Towers development was in dire need of upgrades, lacking adequate insulation and air conditioning.
Constructed in 1961, the Elliot Twins’ long-due renovation featured a layer of insulating metal wall panels for improved energy efficiency, topped by a cladding of metal panels.
Architectural firm LHB Corp. specified Petersen’s Reveal, Flush and 7.2 rib panels for the exterior cladding and used the different profiles as design elements. The panels featured a mix of Petersen’s Sandstone and Slate Gray Finishes, with the Reveal panels measuring 7-, 11- and 12-inches high.
LHB project manager Lisa Germann said the field and accent colors were reversed for the two buildings, and the pattern was rotated to avoid a visual repeat when looking at both towers.
