GlassBuild America 2023 Brings Halloween Treats, New Faces and More

The GlassBuild America show opened Tuesday in Atlanta, where exhibitors are highlighting many new developments.

Goblins, ghouls and the glass industry made their way to the Georgia World Congress Center for GlassBuild America 2023. The show opened on Halloween and runs through Nov. 2.

Plenty of companies took advantage of the Halloween show date and had some fun in their booths this year. Quanex, for example, went with a full haunted-house theme, while also focusing on solutions to help commercial buildings meet increasingly stringent building codes. A few steps away, Walker Glass welcomed guests to a Halloween-themed reception and a showcase of its acid-etched glass products. Danik Dancuase, marketing operations manager, played his part well as the Volturi from Twilight.

Costumes aside, several companies are here for the first time with an eye on growing their market presence. Sphinx Glass, a primary glass manufacturer, made the journey here from Egypt. Wassim Khalil, commercial manager, said this is not only their first time exhibiting at GlassBuild, but their first time at any event in the U.S. He said they have some customers in the U.S. and are working to expand more into this market. In some cases, he said, international business is becoming increasingly complicated, particularly with shipping and logistics challenges. While on the U.S., he said they plan to visit some other starts to learn more about the industry here.

Black line Aluminum, based in Markham, Ontario, was also exhibiting for the first time. The company manufacturers high performance window wall systems, and also fabricates a variety of glass products, including insulating glass units, spandrel and tempered glass, among others. According to Elmira Shabestari, marketing manager, they are working to increase their market presence.

Etched glass and bird-friendly glass were options in the Lisec booth. CERICOM, which has been a part of the Lisec group since 2020, demonstrated its laser etching technology. The equipment can be used to fabricate bird-friendly glass solutions, as well as a wide range of etched glass products for interior glazing such as partitions, among other applications.
