Hegla is building a new logistics center in Beverungen, Germany. The company will combine individual warehouses to create more space for production. The facility will house new technology, warehouse lift systems, mobile pallet and high-bay storage racks and modern warehouse management software to simplify processes and workflows.
The new technology includes software to automatically assess ideal storage positions, making thousands of pallets more accessible. The processes will be controlled and monitored via automated labeling and scanning.
“With the new logistics center, we are positioning ourselves for the future and improving the performance of our warehouse, provision and production processes,” says Peter Herrmann, chief operating officer. “The measures will also free up floor space in the factories that we can repurpose for production with a view towards our further growth.”
Officials say delivering all raw materials, goods and supplied parts for Hegla’s three factories in Beverungen will be concentrated in the new building. The logistics center will also house office and social spaces for workers in the warehouse, logistics, purchasing and work preparation departments.
The expansion has been two years in the making. It is expected to be completed in September 2024.
“With the investment of $4.7 million, we are strengthening the Beverungen location, developing our competitive ability further and committing to ‘Quality made in Germany’ for the future,” explains Bernhard Hötger, managing director.
