The first five students recently graduated from All Weather Architectural Aluminum’s new manufacturing apprenticeship program. The company launched the program this past summer to offer graduating high school students a career pathway in lieu of college.
The 12-week program began in mid-June and finished in mid-September. During that span, students received extensive on-the-job training, exposure to multiple departments, performance reviews and weekly group training sessions for lean manufacturing, human resources, safety, purchasing and new product development.
The program helped students identify areas within All Weather that might best fit them and develop networks and connections throughout the company.
“The goal of this training is to help them see the big picture,” says plant manager Jason Wright. “How the work they do in one department significantly impacts the rest of our company and customers.”
After completing the program, all five students were offered full-time positions at All Weather.
The graduated students included:
- Anthony De La Cruz, Armijo High School;
- Nancy Hernandez, Vacaville High School;
- Victor Lopez, Will C. Wood High School;
- Gabriel Campana, Will C. Wood High School; and
- Chase Scott, Will C. Wood High School.
