Quanex Corp. announced four winners of its 2023 Scholarship Program, made possible by The Quanex Foundation. The program provides four scholarships to students of Quanex employees, helping to support four-year and two-year college programs and vocational or technical schooling.
A third-party administrator evaluates and chooses applicants based on multiple criteria, including academic accomplishments, community service and extracurricular activities.
“These students and their families have put in a tremendous amount of effort in pursuing their education, and we are thrilled to support them as they take these next steps into their futures,” says George Wilson, president and CEO of Quanex. “Congratulations to these students and their families. The entire Quanex family could not be prouder of their achievements.”
Bill and Iris Griffiths Scholarship Winners

The Bill and Iris Griffiths Scholarship was awarded to Emma Smith of Maple Valley, Wash., and Wyatt Neiber of Wahpeton, North Dakota.
Smith will attend Colorado State University to pursue a degree in biological specialization. She is the daughter of Mike Smith, director of operations at Quanex’s Kent, Wash., facility.
“I am honored to have been selected as a recipient of the Bill and Iris Griffiths Scholarship, and I am deeply appreciative of The Quanex Foundation’s support,” she says. “I intend to use this scholarship to its fullest potential and to make the most of my education.”
Neiber will attend North Dakota State College of Science to pursue a business management degree. He is the son of Jeff Neiber, plant manager of the Quanex Custom Components (QCC) Wahpeton facility.
“Deciding on a career to pursue has been tough, but receiving this award will make things a lot easier,” says Wyatt. “I am grateful for the support, and I’m excited to do my best to get as much as I can from my education to give me a solid future.”
William H. McHattie Scholarship Winners

The William H. McHattie Scholarship has been awarded to Blake Schafer of Wahpeton, ND., and Jake Gruebele of Sartell, Minn. Schafer is attending North Dakota State University, where he is pursuing a degree in business management. He is the son of Travis Schafer, the shipping and receiving manager at the QCC Wahpeton facility.
“This scholarship means everything to me and helped me find the freedom to pursue what I really want to be in life and go to the best university for my career choice,” says Schafer. “The window is open for whatever I want to become, thanks to Quanex. This absolutely changed my life.”
Gruebele will attend Dakota County Technical College to pursue a degree in business. He is the son of Jamie Gruebele, production supervisor at QCC’s St. Cloud, Minn., facility.
“I have worked hard in the classroom, on the field and in my job during high school. This generous award will allow me to begin my education to study business while continuing to play baseball,” he says. “Because of this scholarship, I will be able to complete a degree path that leads me to a business setting that continues to support athletics and healthy living.”
