Şişecam reported net sales of $1.5 billion during the first three months of 2023. International sales accounted for 62% of total sales, and investments totaled $149 million. Officials add that the company produced 1.3 million tons of glass, 1.1. million tons of soda ash and around 908,000 tons of industrial raw materials between January and March 2023.
Şişecam CEO Gorkem Elverici attributes the company’s success to inventory optimization-based management, smart technologies, human resources and growth enterprises.
“As in every period, Şişecam continued its growth initiatives in the first quarter of 2023 with a holistic development approach,” says Elverici. “In March 2023, we announced two strategic mining investments in Tarsus and Mersin. The first is a new sand preparation plant investment on our tract in Tarsus OIZ, the site of the Şişecam flat glass investment, which is in progress. The second mining-related investment is a capacity increase of our limestone and dolomite processing plant in Mersin.”
Şişecam also invested in a port operation in California. The port investment will be a collaboration with Ciner Group. Şişecam Chemical USA will become a 50% shareholder of Denmar US LLC, which will operate the Stockton Port Management Project. The investment is scheduled to start operations in 2027.
Additionally, Şişecam purchased Şişecam Cevre Sistemleri, which has supported the institutionalization of Turkey’s glass waste collection and recycling industry over the past seven years.
