ODL Inc. issued a product recall last week for one of the company’s glass door products designed for impact resistance and hurricane protection. Issued in connection with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall pertains to “Severe Weather” door glass inserts manufactured between the dates of May 1, 2022, and Dec. 6, 2022.
Officials said that products manufactured before or after those dates are not involved or subject to the recall. Approximately 39,100 products are affected, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
“Under severe weather conditions (such as hurricane conditions), the adhesive holding the door glass into its frame can fail, allowing the door glass insert to separate from the door. This could result in property damage or injury under severe weather conditions,” the company reported.
So far, no such failures have occurred, but “it is important that all affected products be repaired,” officials said.
The company originally sold affected products under its ODL, Western Reflections and Kenyon’s Glass brand names. Products were also sold to intermediate distributors, after which they were packaged with doors and other products, then sold under separate, third-party names. Among the impacted brands is Jeld-Wen, which sold products through Lowe’s, Lowes.com, Home Depot, Home Depot.com and Zabitat.com. Officials said that door glass products not pre-installed in doors were also sold through Zabitat.com.
Some of the products manufactured within the date range identified by the company have already been corrected, officials reported, with no further actions required in those cases. According to company information, corrected products can be identified via an ‘R’ etched into the door glass’ bottom right or bottom left corner. Pictures are available through the company’s website to aid customers in properly locating and identifying products.
According to company information, “All affected products will be repaired, in your home, by a certified repair service person. There will be no cost to you to have these repairs completed. If the frame of your Severe Weather door glass insert is painted, repairs will not include any touch-up paint.”
In order to arrange for repairs, customers can submit a form through the company’s website or contact the company, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, at 800-221-2839 or by emailing recall@odl.com.
