USGlass Magazine’s Fifth Annual Design Awards
Now in their fifth year, the USGlass Magazine Annual Design Awards return to recognize excellence in architectural glass and glazing. This year’s competition will highlight glass and glazing projects across several categories that drive innovation in architecture and design.
Glass and glazing products are dominant design elements in architectural projects worldwide. Now, it’s time for you to share your best work from 2022. The USGlass Magazine Design Awards are open to all members of the architectural glazing industry, including contract glaziers, glass and metal fabricators and suppliers, architects, developers, owners and building envelope/façade consultants. Winning projects will be featured in the January 2024 issue of USGlass magazine and receive extensive publicity
throughout the year, including editorial coverage and recognition in USGlass, USGNN, podcasts and more.
2022 Winners of the USGlass Design Awards
The USGlass Magazine Design Awards were launched in 2019 to recognize excellence in the use of architectural glass. Here’s a look back at the winning projects from the 2022 competition.

Judges
Alberto Alarcon
Architectural Marketing Manager, Kuraray
Alberto Alarcon is an accomplished architectural marketing manager in Kuraray’s Advanced Interlayer Solutions Division and oversees the Northeast Coast of the U.S. He has more than 15 years of experience in the industry and has held commercial and consulting positions in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and the U.S. His expertise includes advanced design of building facade elements, structural glass, sealants and interlayers. Prior to his current role, he served as sales manager at Dow Chemical for the silicone division. He is an active member of the marketing committee of the Facade Tectonics Institute.
Phil DeLise
Chief Operating Officer, Massey’s Plate Glass and Aluminum
Phil DeLise oversees the day-to-day office and field operations, managing the scheduling of both material and field labor, weekly labor reports, purchasing and project management from contract signing to field installation and completion for all jobs. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Some of his key project involvements include the Google Headquarters Office Tower in Cambridge, Mass., the Yale University Science Building in New Haven, Conn., and Pier 4 in Boston.
David Dunham, P.E.
Director of Business Development, Sentech Architectural Systems
David Dunham has more than 18 years in the structural glass industry, including extensive onsite and construction experience. A registered professional engineer in 18 states, he has led the engineering efforts on some of Sentech’s most complex projects. Dunham leads all high-touch design efforts, playing an integral role in new product development and identifying cutting-edge technology in the marketplace. He holds a B.A. in engineering physics from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif., and a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a focus on structures.
Barbara Haaksma
Senior Vice President of Marketing, C.R. Laurence
Throughout her career, Barbara Haaksma has focused on architecture, interior design and product design. She and her team are responsible for brand, product design, marketing and management, digital marketing and business development. Prior to joining CRL, Haaksma led design and marketing teams in the textile and building material industries, as well as practiced commercial interior design.
Emily Losego
Commercial Innovation Director, Vitro Architectural Glass
Emily Losego is Vitro’s director of commercial innovation. She works with Vitro’s Marketing & Innovation Team to bring new glass product ideas from the drawing board to the production line. A former practicing architect, national architectural manager and magnetron sputter vacuum deposition product manager for Vitro, Losego is responsible for defining the vision for the architectural commercial market.
Rules and Eligibility
• Projects must have been completed between January 2022 and December 2022;
• Projects located anywhere throughout the world are eligible for entry;
• Submissions must feature architectural glazing prominently within the design or show a unique, inaugural or innovative glazing design;
• Submissions must include up to five high-resolution (300 dpi; 1200 x 2400 pixels max) images. Please include a close-up to illustrate the difficulty level and images of the finished job. If entering the façade renovation/retrofit
category, please also include a before shot of the project;
• Submissions at the time of entry, including all images, must be approved for publication by the project owner, and you must have and provide the rights to use the images for editorial purposes;
• To maintain anonymity in judging, the names of entrants or collaborating parties will not appear on any submission materials provided to judges;
• Entry forms must be completed in their entirety.
Deadlines
Submissions will be due by June 23, 2023, and announced in the January 2024 issue of USGlass magazine.
Entry Fee: $55
Criteria
Submissions should illustrate the following:
• Design innovation;
• Aesthetic achievements;
• Technical difficulty.
Categories
• Lowrise construction (less than four floors)
• Midrise construction (5-12 floors)
• Highrise construction (more than 12 floors)
• Podium spaces (e.g., lobby spaces, entrances, etc.)
• Façade retrofit/renovation
• Interior glazing (walls, partitions, balustrades, etc.)
• Art glass (architectural glass used as a medium for artistic
expression and integrated into a building or urban habitat)
• Structural glass – Facades
• Structural glass – Floors, stairs, fins, beams, etc.
