North Carolina Glass Company Damaged in Fire

An overnight fire burned through a North Carolina glass company on December 1. Media reports indicate that the fire started at Mitchell Glass in Spruce Pine, N.C., at about 8 p.m. and was likely set off by a wood-burning stove on the second floor. There were no injuries reported.

Mitchell Glass is a family-owned business that provides commercial glass replacement, storefront services, and more.

As the fire ripped through the business, one of the company’s owners stood by and filmed.

“This is Mitchell Glass,” Karen Ramsey said during a Facebook Live post. “Pray for us. This is our work. It’s burning down.”

The Mitchell News-Journal reports that officials are investigating the cause of the fire and are working to estimate the total damages.

“As most of you have probably heard, we have suffered a devasting fire at Mitchell Glass,” the company posted on Facebook. “We are still in shock. We don’t know what to do next, so we are going to take some time to make some tough decisions. If and when we are back up and running, we will let everyone know. We want to thank you all for the support over the past 20 years of business. Thanks also for the prayers during this difficult time in our lives.”
