The number of building construction employees rose 8.5 percent from January to February 2013, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS estimates that 1,251.7 thousand (seasonally adjusted) were employed in building construction-related jobs in January 2013, compared with 1,260.2 thousand in February 2013. This represents a 1.-percent increase over last February, at which time 1,239.2 thousand were employed in building construction-related jobs.
On the nonresidential side, construction-related employment was up 6.2 percent from January to February—from 676.5 thousand to 682.7 thousand. Year-to-year numbers also were up on the nonresidential side, with a 3.1-percent increase from 662.1 thousand in February 2012 to 682.7 thousand in February 2013.
