Continuing education is an important part of most anyone’s career. After all, even if you’re one who has only recently finished school, it’s still not likely that you remember every single thing you ever learned from day one. Taking advantage of those ongoing opportunities that allow you to continue learning, even after the diplomas are on the wall, will only help keep us all current with what’s happening within the industries in which we work.
Back in June the American Institute of Architects (AIA) hosted its national convention in Miami. More than 17,000 took part in the three-day event, which offered them the chance to take part in numerous learning sessions that provided continuing education credits. While class-room style lessons are important, you can also learn a lot by talking to other people in the industry to find out about their latest industry news, trends and developments. So in addition to the sessions, the AIA convention also included a trade show where hundreds of companies, including an impressive grouping from the glass and metal industry, offered up their newest products. Through their exhibitions, exhibitors brought their own type of education to architects—education about glass and energy performance; safety and security; and aesthetically pleasing design features.
